The Official Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum is now one step closer to opening. After winning a bid to acquire a building in Harlem and a development site, the group behind the hall of fame announced they will be opening their doors in 2018.

According to the Hip Hop Hall of Fame group, the development team “anticipates completing the building acquisition process over the next few months.” A press release from the group says “phase I” of the plan will open in February 2018.

“The preliminary plan includes a ground floor themed HHHOF café, gallery, visitors bureau, and retail gift store with a second floor HHHOF museum, event space, offices, and multi-media studio for film and television content production,” said JT Thompson in the press release.

While the second phase doesn’t have a set date, the plan is to include a full scale design and “build development of the total site that could be approximately 20 stories high and include The Hip Hop Hall of Fame + Museum & Hotel Entertainment Complex design concept that features the Hall of Fame, Museum, 5 Star Hotel, Retail Mall & Gift Shop, Arcade, TV Studios, Sports Bar, Restaurant & Concert Lounge.”

The group also has plans for what they call a “state of the art ‘Green Technology & Energy Conservation’ museum building. According to the Hip Hop Hall of Fame, their mission is to "preserve, archive, exhibit, educate and showcase hip-hop music and culture from around the world."
