One of the year's slightly overlooked albums comes from young British songbird Lianna La Havas. The singer turns 26 years old today (Aug. 23).

La Havas wrote her first song when she was 11 years old and learned to play the guitar by the time she was 18. It was not too long afterward that she got some success in the music business. She was introduced by a friend to Paloma Faith, another well-known singer British singer. La Havas would spend some time singing backing vocals for her on tour.

La Havas signed to Warner Bros. Records in 2010 and spent two years developing her craft before releasing her debut album Is Your Love Enough? Many were captivated by the album's musicianship and angelic lilt. Blood, which came out in July, gave her aesthetic more color.

The "Unstoppable" singer hasn't reached peak popularity quite yet, but at least Prince digs her. She's featured multiple times on Prince's latest album, ARTOFFICIALAGE, and sung along with him during his Saturday Night Live guest performance. That's a pretty big addition to the resume.
