Rapper-actor Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, turns 34 years old today (Sept. 25).

As an actor, Glover got exposed to the mainstream audience with his role in Community, which had a respectable cult and critical following during its run on NBC. He also was a writer on the acclaimed 30 Rock series.

After steadily gaining some props with his mixtapes, he released Camp in 2011. The album sold decently but Gambino didn't quite earn respect. Royalty proved his technical skill and Because the Internet, Gambino's second album, had a set of minor hits and cohesion. After he released the solid STN MTN and Kauai in 2014. Gambino was primed for a major breakthrough.

In 2016, Glover's breakthrough came in the form of his critically-acclaimed FX dramady Atlanta. The show became one of the best reviewed of 2016 and late in the year, Gambino dropped "Awaken, My Love!", a hit funk album that was widely hailed for it's creative and musical ambition.

In 2017, Glover won the Primetime Emmys for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. and for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards.
