One of the many joys to come out of the last decade was the charming melancholy of a Craig David song. They were definitive, too; you knew a Craig David song when you heard it. The English crooner turns 34 years old today (May 5).

David is known for creating his 2000 hit "7 Days," featuring an instantly memorable hook and the accompanying video played out somewhat like Groundhog Day minus the black humor. Topping at No. 10 on the Billboard chart, "7 Days" became David's biggest worldwide hit. It undoubtedly pushed his debut LP, Born to Do It, to platinum certification. His follow-up "Walking Away," another acoustic number, was a minor hit that solidified him as the genre's sweetheart.

He remained a success in the U.K. in the years to come; seven of his next 10 singles would make the Top 10 on the country's charts. However, "Walking Away" was his last hit to chart in America.

The singer hasn't released an album since 2010 -- Signed Sealed Delivered was a collection of mostly cover songs. David has been keeping busy, though. He's a known DJ over the Atlantic and is still making new music. Songs like "Seduction," released last year, shows he's long moved away from the acoustic sound that made him famous in the States. He's still taking chances, which is cool, but it doesn't look like he's surpassing his ode to daily romance anytime soon.
