XXL reports that Freddie Gibbs (born Fredrick Tipton) has been extradited to Austria today (June 23). He was granted bail and released from custody last week (June 16) and the question remained whether or not he'd be extradited to Austria to face rape allegations stemming from a 2015 incident.

In a statement obtained by XXL, Freddie's lawyers expected the 34 year-old rapper to be extradited, and the move came as no surprise.

“The order was not surprising and it doesn’t change the fact that these are false allegations,” Scott Leemon, one of Freddie's lawyers wrote. “We are still hoping that once the public prosecutor in Austria interviews Freddie she will decide not to go forward. If she does decide to go forward, Freddie will fight the charges with everything he’s got.”

Gibbs was arrested on June 2 just before a planned concert in the southwestern French city of Toulouse. The arrest followed a European arrest warrant that was issued on May 31. The Gary, Indiana rapper has since cancelled all of his Shadow of a Doubt tour dates in Europe and Canada.

Gibbs reportedly has 72 hours to appeal the extradition to Austria, which one of his lawyers, Michael Malka, says he's considering. According to XXL, Malka also added that Gibbs “has no intention of escaping justice, whether French or Austrian.”

The rape allegations are serious but Gibbs' lawyer, Malka, has repeatedly expressed the rapper's shock.

"He categorically denies the allegations made against him by Austria and is even very surprised that Austria is taking this on a year later, just as he is on tour in Europe,” Malka previously stated.
