Former Employee Sues BET for Sexual Harrassment

BET

A former BET employee has filed a lawsuit against the cable network for sexual harassment. Last Wednesday (April 13), Tameika Dorman filed suit with the State of New York Supreme Court, claiming that in February of 2009, she was harassed by her co-worker, Derek Clarke, while editing a segment for BET.com.

According to Dorman, who hosted and produced the segment, Clarke continuously focused on shots of her rear-end during editing. “Clarke grabbed and repeatedly rubbed his crotch, began to moan and said it was because he loved her butt, that she was sexy and that she did not know what he was going to do [to] her,” details in the suit revealed.

After complaining to her supervisor, she was informed that she would no longer be paired up with Clarke, but found herself working with him again when editing a piece on Nicki Minaj, prompting her to file a complaint with Human Resources. Dorman was then taken off of the production team for BET’s Hip-Hop honors, and subsequently let go from the company.

Dorman feels that she was fired as an act of both retaliation and discrimination since she was also pregnant. She is seeking monetary damages for unlawful termination, discriminatory practices and lawyer fees.

BET has yet to release a statement on the matter.
