The new year is turning out to be rather negative for Flavor Flav. The Public Enemy hype man was arrested earlier today (Jan. 9) in New York while traveling to his mother's funeral.

Flav, born William Drayton, Jr., was driving a black Hyundai in Hempstead, N.Y., when police stopped him for speeding. He was reportedly going 79 mph in a 55 mph zone -- 24 mph over the speed limit.

However, that's not all. When cops stopped the 54-year-old hip-hop star, they discovered he had a whopping 16 suspensions on his license. The cause of the suspensions were due to unpaid parking tickets, authorities told TMZ.

And there's more. Marijuana was found as well, although no details were released on whether the drugs were discovered in the car or on Flav himself.

He was arrested for felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and carted off to jail. Once Flav was booked, police released him without bail and he continued on his way to attend his mother's funeral.

On Dec. 31, 2013, instead of celebrating New Year's Eve, Flavor Flav mourned the passing of his mother, Anna Drayton. Her cause of death was not given.
