Madonna delivered a weak tribute to Prince at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards on Sunday night (May 22). Viewers watching at home were not feeling the performance and they went on social media to voice their displeasure.

The veteran pop singer paid her respects to the fallen music icon by covering his ballad "Nothing Compares 2 U," a song he originally penned for Sinead O'Connor. Madge also performed a rendition of "Purple Rain" that brought out a surprise guest -- Stevie Wonder. Their performance did get the crowd on their feet as well as inspired many to join in on singing along Prince's classic tune.

And although it did drew some praise from a few people like actress Vivica A. Fox, unfortunately, fans on social media didn't like it too much.

"Prince deserved so much more than this! #bbmas," one fan tweeted.

Another fan conveyed different emotions she experienced watching Madonna's tribute to the Purple One. "Cried tears of sadness listening 2 Questlove speak about Prince. Cried tears of horror watching Madonna; he deserved a better tribute, Madge," she wrote.

And some other fans warned TV networks and other award shows that would air this year to be careful about how they pay homage to Prince. "OK @BET and @MTV, don't f--- up whatever future tribute you have planned like they just did on the #BillboardMusicAwards #BBMAs. Please!!," one fan warned.

Fans were quite vocal about Madonna's tribute to Prince at the BBMAs. Check out their reactions below.
