Fabolous Releasing Soul-Drenched Mixtape
Last year, Fabolous promised to drop his mixtape 'There Is No Competition 2: The Funeral Service' on Jan. 1, but took a few extra months to deliver the goods. Loso promises to keep his word on the February 2011 release of his follow-up mixtape 'The S.O.U.L. Tape,' an offering that sees the New York native rapping strictly over soul-sampled beats.
"I'm almost done with it," he told XXL. "I did the poll [on Twitter] to get people interactive with it and see what names they would come up with. I'm doing it over all old soul sampled beats, so I wanted to keep the world 'soul' within the titles."
Fab explained that he didn't want to produce another installment in his 'There Is No Competition' series, despite the fact that his Twitter followers offered title suggestions like 'Rest the Souls of the Competition' and 'TINC 2.5: Soul Survivor.' "I'm trying to steer away from that because that's its own brand. I want to steer away from both of those and just call it 'The S.O.U.L. Tape," he said.
He also explained that while he doesn't hate the use of a DJ hosting a mixtape, he's going to shy away from that on 'The S.O.U.L. Tape' so listeners can enjoy the raps uninterrupted. "They usually blend the tapes well and it good for the music, but I think I want to do it without -- just music,' he said. "It's kinda one of those tapes that I want people to just sit through and listen and really hear the lyrics. DJs bring it back sometimes or they're talking on top of it."
