Erykah Badu kicked off the 2015 Soul Train Awards riding on a hoverboard. Donned in a long trench coat, the veteran R&B chanteuse performed a medley of her hits, including “Danger.”

And as she sang "the block stay hot," she was sure to get down with a few moves of her own. Then, in the most ladylike fashion, Badu stepped off the hoverboard to sing "On & On" followed by "Love of My Life."

Badu is also hosting the star-studded event this year and took time to address the audience and set a few ground rules. "Peace and light ya'll, sistahs how ya'll feel," she said. "Fellas how you doing?"

She went on to introduce herself -- as if she really needs to -- with her several nicknames such as Badula Oblongata, Fat Belly Bella and Analog Girl in a Digital World.

Then it was time to lay down the law.

"As you all know I am the Queen of Neo-soul and people say I have this common effect on rappers," she said citing crochet pants as one of the changes from rappers. Therefore she was banned from all of the hip-hop award shows. So in turn, she's banning them too.

"I'm banning all rap this year at the awards. Don't get me wrong I love hip-hop but tonight it's all about soul," she said. But it wasn't long before she got a few phone calls from a few rappers to get the skinny. Badu, who just dropped "Hello" with her baby daddy, Andre 3000 got a call from her ex boo first. (And his ringtone is hilariously OutKast's "Ms. Jackson."

"Hey Three Stacks. Alright Alright Alright Alright. Yes I said no rappers. Maybe forever ever ever," she said using the rhymer's catchphrases. Next caller was Young Thug. "Honestly man no littles or youngs in their name. Plus all your subjects and verbs gotta agree," she told him. As for the last call, Iggy Azalea, it went down a little different. "You can come cause what you're doing is definitely not rap. Uber will be outside -- his name is Carlo. Love you," she said much to the laughter of the audience.

The rest of the rules? "No red cups, only three tattoos per arm" and "no pants sagging and nothing will be on fleek." There's only "good music and real sangin' celebration of R&B artists and legends in the making."

The 2015 Soul Train Awards is going to be a fun ride. Love, peace and soul!
