Joseph Llanes for AOL

Despite a performance at Coachella 2011 that was filled with glitches like microphone feedback, Erykah Badu won over the crowd on Saturday (April 16) in Indio, Calif. She also won over photographer Joseph Llanes, who had the opportunity to capture the 'New Amerykah, Pt. 2: Return of the Ankh' creator in her personal space at the festival: inside her trailer.

"I had a set time to meet EB at her trailer after she played at Coachella," Llanes tells the BoomBox. "I had several shoots work the same way: I would show up at the artist's trailer, do a quick portrait and run off to the next one. This was different. When I arrived at Erykah's trailer, I walked into her world. She had created a refuge from the heat and crowds. I have never been more charmed into someone's vibe [and] presence. It's as if she was directing or setting the stage for the photograph I was going to produce. She was effortlessly as much a part of making the photograph work, I was just there to capture it. She might be my all-time favorite person I have worked with."

For fans who couldn't travel to Coachella to get a glimpse of the veteran singer, she'll be taking her talents to the Venue in Hammond, Ind., on April 22, Houston Arena Theatre in Houston, Texas on May 21 and the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco, Calif., August 12 through 14.
