Empire has some big celebrations on the way. Not only is the upcoming second season taking off in September, but two of the show's stars will be walking down the aisle. Grace Gealey and Trai Byers are engaged.

Byers, who plays Andre Lyon, popped the question during a surprise party that he threw for Gealey, who has the role of Anika Calhoun on the show. "She thought it would just be the two of them going to dinner, but when they got there, he had arranged a party for about 20 of her friends and family members to surprise her," a source told E! News.

The party took place at Knmont in Chicago on Sunday night (July 26). The newly betrothed celebrated with family, friends and some of their co-stars including Kaitlin Doubleday, Gabourey Sidibe and Jussie Smollett.

"They are definitely going strong," another source told E! News. "They make a really cute couple."

Gealey and Byers have kept their relationship under the radar. While some celeb couples can't wait to share the news on Instagram, Gealey and Byers are still pretty quiet about the actual engagement. Gealey's Instagram post doesn't mention it once.

"To all who sent greetings, called, messaged and came out to celebrate yesterday, thank you. It was an incredibly unforgettable day. And looking forward to an incredibly unforgettable year. #31HereWeCome #empirefam #arthurmurrayfam #famfam," she wrote as the caption to the photo collage on Instagram.

We're excited for the couple and send them the best of wishes, but also have one question: will this be weird when it comes to the show? Since Gealy plays Anika, head of Empire Entertainment A&R, she's engaged to the CEO Lucious Lyon. This means that Gealey will be Byers' stepmom on the show. Plus, Byers will have to watch oncamera makeout sessions and she will have to do the same when it comes to his character. But they're obviously professionals. And if we can put that to the side, we're sure Empire fans can, too, right?

We'll just have to wait and see when the new season of Empire premieres on Sept. 23.
