Eminem Talks Representing Detroit, Touring and Future With Zane Lowe (Part 4)

The final part of Zane Lowe's interview with Eminem finds the two discussing the rapper's love for his hometown and his future endeavors in hip-hop. This is arguably the most light-hearted part of their sit-down as well. We find out Em apparently wanted to be a singer first.

The joke came after Zane Lowe started talking about the Joe Walsh-sampling 'So Far...,' which is Eminem's tongue-in-cheek shout-out to Detroit. The BBC Radio 1 DJ questioned the MC's love for his hometown through all the financial hardship.

"I feel like we've always been the underdog ... I've kept that with me. That fighting spirit that Detroit has," Eminem shares. "Because Detroit is so resilient. I feel like people there have this Detroit versus everybody mentality, because the way people look at us, they always count us out. I know that attitude is displayed a lot in my music, but I think that is where it comes from."

Eminem is also far from the days when he headlined the Anger Management Tour -- which he shortened due to a combination of exhaustion and addiction to sleeping pills. He's played multiple shows across the Atlantic and Australia in recent years. Lowe questions how was it like returning to the performance stage, especially after the detachment drug addiction brings.

"I was so trapped in my own head. I'm often trapped in my in head to this day," 'The Marshall Mathers LP 2' creator says. "It was one of those things that it was like, 'F--- man, let me take, this and this and drink this and get through it,' as opposed to just getting out there and being able to connect with the crowd."

The talk concludes with Slim Shady revealing his uncertainty of what's in store for him in the future -- though he's always going to be involved with hip-hop in some capacity. Before the video cuts off, Em gives a hilariously creepy stare at the camera to warn watchers to not get trapped in his head, no matter how entertaining it sounded for the past 15 years.
