On this day in 2000, Eminem released The Marshall Mathers LP, which is, arguably, one of the best albums in his expansive discography.

The 16-song collection, released on May 23, 2000, was the Detroit rhymer’s unbridled “F--- you” to all of the critics and naysayers who despised the misogynistic and homophobic lyrics found on his previous effort, The Slim Shady LP. On the MMLP, Em was even more diabolical, more sinister and yet, still lyrically sharp on all fronts over Dr. Dre’s superior production.

Many of the songs on this effort either make you smile or grimace depending on your tolerance of vulgarity. Eminem delivers self-loathing tales about drugs, his deadbeat mom, the price of fame and his tumultuous relationship with his estranged wife Kimberly Anne Scott (aka Kim).

On “Way I Am,” Em vents his frustration over the media criticizing him for his offensive lyrics. "And all of this controversy circles me / And it seems like the media immediately points a finger at me / So I point one back at 'em, but not the index or pinkie / Or the ring or the thumb, it's the one you put up / When you don't give a f---," he raps.

Among the dark material on the MMLP, there is a bit of humor by way of "The Real Slim Shady," as he pokes fun at boy bands and pop music songbirds, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. On the other hand, it's hard to find humor in such songs as the chilling "Kim," in which Em lyrically details how he's going to murder the mother of his newborn child.

Of course, the standout song on the album is "Stan," a masterful display of lyricism, in which a deranged fan vents about never meeting his rap idol.

On its 15-year anniversary, The Boombox pressed play on the record to once again hear some of the foul-mouthed lines from the Grammy Award-winning rap classic. Love him or hate him, Eminem definitely shook up the world with his no-holds-barred rhymes. Here are 10 Shocking Lyrics From Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP.

    "Kill You"

The opening salvo on The Marshall Mathers LP features Eminem, as his rap alter ego Slim Shady, being extremely lewd. He delivers violent lyrics aimed at Kim and his mother and offends women worldwide with this one.

Shocking lyrics: "Put your hands down, bitch, I ain't gon' shoot you / I'ma pull you to this bullet and put it through you / Shut up, slut, you're causing too much chaos / Just bend over and take it like a slut, okay, Ma?"

    "Remember Me?"

    Featuring RBX & Sticky Fingaz

Over Dr. Dre's sinister production, Em spits more vitriolic bars aimed at Hailie's mom and even throws then-president Bill Clinton into the mix for good measure, which makes this a great addition to our list of 10 Shocking Lyrics From Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP.

Shocking lyrics: My baby's mom, bitch made me an angry blond / So I made me a song, killed her and put Hailie on / I may be wrong, I keep thinking these crazy thoughts in my cranium / But I'm stuck with a crazy mom (Is she really on as much dope as you say she's on?)."

    "Bitch Please, Part II"

Featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit & Nate Dogg

This is one of the few tamer songs found on the TMMLP and by that we mean there are fewer expletives than on other tracks. But don't get it twisted, Eminem doesn't get soft here, he's just getting started. Oh, and he has a special message for the critics.

Shocking lyrics: "So when you see me, dressin' up like a nerd on TV / Or heard the CD using the f-- word so freely / It's just me being me, here want me to tone it down / Suck my f---ing d---, you f-----, you happy now?"

    "Under the Influence"

    Featuring D12

Em gets outshined by his motley crew of Detroit rappers D12 who spit ribald lyrics of drug use, murder, and sodomy. But on the chorus, Slim Shady continues to spew lyrical venom at the critics.

Shocking lyrics: "So you can suck my d--- if you don't like, my s--- / 'Cause I was high when I wrote this so suck, my d--- / 'Cause I don't give a f--- if you don't like, my s--- / 'Cause I was high when I wrote this so suck, my d---."

    "The Real Slim Shady"

"The Real Slim Shady" is a satirical song in which Eminem pokes fun at boy bands like 'N Sync and claims that Christina Aguilera gave him VD. The song cracked the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, much to the chagrin of gay activist group's who despised his "hate-filled lyrics."

Shocking lyrics: "Half of you critics can't even stomach me, let alone stand me / 'But Slim, what if you win, wouldn't it be weird' / Why, so you guys could just lie to get me here / So you can sit me here next to Britney Spears / S---, Christina Aguilera better switch me chairs / So I can sit next to Carson Daly and Fred Durst / And hear 'em argue over who she gave head to first."

    "Criminal"

The Detroit MC invites listeners into the mind of a lunatic on this effort. For his third verse, Em serves a grim tale about robbing a bank and killing a teller. Overall, this is one diabolical track.

Shocking lyrics: "My words are like a dagger with a jagged edge / That'll stab you in the head, whether you're a f-- or lez / Or the homosex, hermaph or a trans-a-vest / Pants or dress, hate f--s? the answer's "yes" / Homophobic? Nah, you're just hetero-phobic."

    "Amityville"

    Featuring Bizarre

On this list of 10 Shocking Lyrics From Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP, the horrifying "Amityville" gets a spot due to rhymes that will make your grandma clutch her pearls. Shockingly, however, the most alarming verse on the song is not from Em, himself, but from D12 member Bizarre.

Shocking lyrics: "I f---ed my cousin in his asshole, slit my mother's throat / Guess who Slim Shady just signed to Interscope / My little sister's birthday, she'll remember me / For a gift, I had 10 of my boys take her virginity."

    "Stan"

    Featuring Dido

Coming in at No. 3 is "Stan," Eminem's most brilliant song on The Marshall Mathers LP. On the track, an imitative fan vents his frustration in a letter over not meeting his rap idol Eminem. It's a masterful display of clever lyricism from the Detroit rhymer.

Shocking lyrics: "See, Slim, shut up bitch, I'm tryna talk / Hey, Slim, that's my girlfriend screamin' in the trunk / But I didn't slit her throat, I just tied her up, see I ain't like you / 'Cause if she suffocates she'll suffer more and then she'll die too / Well, gotta go, I'm almost at the bridge now / Oh shit, I forgot, how am I supposed to send this shit out?"

    "Kim"

Undoubtedly, "Kim" is the most chilling song on the album. Over an echoic beat and morose violins, Eminem methodically details how he's going to murder the mother of his newborn child. The ending still gives us goosebumps just listening to it.

Shocking lyrics: "You and your husband have a fight, one of you tries to grab a knife / And during the struggle, he accidentally gets his Adam's apple sliced! (No!) / And while this is going on, his son just woke up and he walks in / She panics and he gets his throat cut! (Oh my God!) / So now they both dead, and you slash your own throat / So now it's double homicide and suicide with no note!"

    "I'm Back"

Slim Shady is the devil's spawn on "I'm Back," and he's proud of his lineage. The rapper continues to chastise critics who are upset over his lyrics, and in the process, the late Christopher Reeves, Diddy and Jennifer Lopez all get thrown under the bus. Plus, he boasts about sexual relations with his mom. If that's not shocking, check your pulse.

Shocking lyrics: "So I just, throw up a middle finger and let it linger / Longer than the rumor that I was sticking it to Christina / 'Cause if I ever stuck it to any singer in showbiz / It'd be Jennifer Lopez and Puffy you know this / I'm sorry Puff but I don't give a f--- if this chick was my own mother / I'd still f--- her with no rubber and cum inside her and have a son and a new brother at the same time / And just say that it ain't mine, what's my name."
