Aside from debuting three songs and revealing the tracklisting, Eminem‘s kept pretty quiet regarding his upcoming album, ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ which hits stores in less than two weeks. For their Nov. 7 issue, though, Rolling Stone managed to squeeze a few details out of the typically secretive Slim Shady.

“['The Marshall Mathers LP 2' is] not necessarily a sequel, as much as it is a revisitation,” he said, giving fans their first insight into how the album compares to its 2000 predecessor. “So there’s not gonna be, like, continuations of every old song on there or anything like that. To me, it’s more about the vibe, and it’s more about the nostalgia.”

The Detroit rapper addressed the pressures of making a sequel to ‘The Marshall Mathers LP,’ which many consider to be his magnum opus. He also shed light on how these huge expectations added extra scrutiny to the recording process, often resulting in multiple revisions of songs.

“Calling it ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2,’ obviously I knew that there might be certain expectations,” he said. “I wouldn’t want to call it that just for the sake of calling it that. I had to make sure that I had the right songs — and just when you think you got it, you listen and you’re like, ‘F—, man! I feel like it needs this or that,’ to paint the whole picture.”

As for the project’s executive producer, Rick Rubin, Em nodded to a certain ‘Star Wars‘ character to illustrate his musical genius: “As many genres of music that he is able to f— with, he’s like Yoda.” We imagine Kanye West and Lady Gaga would back him up on that.
