Watch Eminem & Slaughterhouse Freestyle on BET’s ‘Rap City’ Special

Just like they did in 2009 following the release of ‘Relapse,’ BET brought back ‘Rap City’ from the dead for a special one-off episode last night (Nov. 6) to celebrate Eminem‘s new album, ‘The Marshall Mathers LP 2.’

With Just Blaze on the 1s and 2s and Big Tigger returning as host, things kicked off with a customary freestyle from Slim Shady and the Slaughterhouse crew (in the Backroom, not the Basement, unfortunately), and best believe bars were spit.

Joe Budden, Royce Da 5’9″, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I (who earned the most screw faces from the room) each took turns to tear apart an !llmind beat before paving way for the self-proclaimed Rap God to rhyme a cappella.

After cooling off from the lyrical work out, Eminem sat down with Tigger for an interview. He played a not-so-quick word association game with each of his albums, taking time to reflect on those particular times in his life, including the original ‘Marshall Mathers LP,’ which released in 2000.

“Everything was happening really fast at that point time, so a lot of it’s really blurry to me,” he remembered. “Just this swirl of, like, so many things happening at once. It just felt like my life was whizzing by me. I felt like I was being — drug here and drug there — and I almost didn’t feel in control of my life anymore, and all I wanted to do was rap.”

Marshall also discussed how his 2011 collaboration with Royce Da 5’9″, ‘Bad Meets Evil,’ inspired him to make a sequel to ‘MMLP,’ the recording process of this new album and his experience working with Kendrick Lamar on ‘Love Game.’ He had high praise for that ‘Control’ verse, too.
