Reclusive rapper Eminem made a rare East Coast appearance on Wednesday (May 5) shooting a video on a highly-trafficked street in Newark, New Jersey. Why Newark of all places? Apparently, the Detroit-bred emcee wanted the "New York City" feel without all the drama of the Big Apple.

The video shoot was for 'Not Afraid,' the first single from Em's highly-anticipated 'Relapse' follow-up, fittingly-titled 'Recovery.' Eminem shot the video on Market Street, one of the Newark's major streets, where a large crowd formed to catch a glimpse of the black-clad rapper as he filmed his performance, flanked by longtime collaborator Royce Da 5'9" and several extras.

The crowd was held back by police barricades and a large security detail, which the locals were none too pleased about, though they reportedly calmed down once Em gave them a wave of recognition.

Eminem's forthcoming album, 'Recovery,' features production by Just Blaze, Jim Jonsin, Havoc, DJ Khalil and more. It is scheduled for a June 22 release.
