Drake Covers Vibe Magazine’s ‘Race Issue’

Drake ends the year on top by scoring the cover of Vibe magazine’s ‘Race Issue.’

A menacing-looking Drizzy, pictured in black-and-white, appears on the front of the publication with the tagline “The Year Drake Became King.” An asterisk at the end of the sentence leads readers to some smaller font, in which the rapper gets the title of having “2013’s best album.”

In the interview, the Toronto native addresses his versatility. “People f—ing love to sing, that’s what I never forget,” says Drake. “But you can’t say my bars aren’t up there with the best of them. People keep challenging me about what real rap is. Is it the s— you know all the words to, or the s— that sounds fast and complex? I don’t have the answer. At the same time, I know I can do a couple things.”

When asked about competition with Kendrick Lamar, the OVO leader brushes off any supposed beef. “There’s no real issue. It’s tough because the people wanna see us tear each other down; I don’t wanna give them that,” Drake explains.
