Drake: ‘Take Care’ Lands at No. 1 Spot on Billboard Charts

Though his estimated first week ‘Take Care’ sales were much higher than he actually sold, Drake will still come out on top, when he scores the No. 1 position on the Billboard charts Wednesday morning (Nov. 23), according to Hits Daily Double.

The site revealed that the Toronto native’s sophomore effort earned approximately 659,190 units sold in its debut week. Drake’s LP landed on the charts with the second highest opening week sales number in rap, keeping it in the family as he comes up behind Young Money boss Lil Wayne, who owns the highest debut week with ‘Tha Carter IV.’ The LP racked up 964,000 total copies after its release on Aug. 29.

‘Take Care’ has served as one of the most highly anticipated rap albums this year, with such efforts as Kanye West and Jay-Z‘s ‘Watch the Throne,’ Wale‘s ‘Ambition’ and J. Cole‘s ‘Cole World: The Sideline Story’ among LPs sitting in the same circle. With collaborations from Rihanna on the title track ‘Take Care,’ Nicki Minaj on ‘Make Me Proud,’ Rick Ross supporting on ‘Lord Knows,’ The Weeknd crooning on ‘Crew Love’ and Wayne assisting on ‘The Real Her,’ fans of the 25-year-old MC were given an array of tracks to identify with.

Drake’s 2010 debut LP, ‘Thank Me Later,’ earned first week sales of 447,000 units sold. ‘Take Care’ surpassed that amount by roughly 200,000 copies.
