Drake Dropping ‘Take Care’ on Schedule, Called ‘Trailblazer’

It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for Drake and things are about to get even more hectic. The Canadian MC first told fans ‘Thank Me Later’ by way of his platinum-plus selling debut, and now he’s ready to say ‘Take Care,’ with his sophomore effort due out this fall.

After taking time off to work on a now scrapped R&B mixtape, the buzz behind Drizzy’s second release continues to grow on the heels of dropping the somber love song ‘Marvinís Room,’ and the LP’s first official single, ‘Headlines.’

Since its release in late July, ‘Headlines,’ produced by longtime collaborator Noah “40″ Shebib, sold nearly 140,000 downloads on iTunes in just a couple of days, and became the No. 1 most added song on urban radio. “Very few artists are able to release such a strong body of work so early in their careers,” explains Drake’s co-manager Cortez Bryant in a statement. “Drake tells an entire story with ‘Take Care’ and fans are going to be able to see how far he has come.”

No doubt Drizzy will have big shoes to fill if he wants to match or exceed the success of his first album. Upon its release last June, ‘Thank Me Later’ debuted atop the Billboard album charts, selling 446,680 units in its first week, and went on to sell 1.5 million copies.

“Drake continues to be a trailblazer not just in hip-hop but in the general music landscape,” says Cash Money Record Co-CEO Ronald “Slim” Williams. Cash Money head, Brian “Birdman” Williams adds, “The Young Money [and] Cash Money families could not be more proud to release this album this fall. We have always believed in his talent and know Drake will not disappoint his fans with this offering.”

‘Take Care’ is due out Oct. 24.
