There was plenty of excitement at Super Bowl 50 on Sunday night (Feb. 7), including exciting news that Drake would be performing at the 2016 Grammy Awards. But alas, it’s not true, according to the Toronto rap star.
During the game, CBS aired a Grammy promo touting all of the big-name acts that are slated to appear on music’s biggest night including Drizzy. While fans were happy to hear the good news, they were quickly disappointed when the “Hotline Bling” rapper announced on his Twitter account that he’s not performing.
"I am not performing at the Grammy Awards...but hey it's the thought that counts," he tweeted.
Now we must mention that other artists were featured in the commercial as well including Ice Cube, Lionel Richie, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj but it doesn't say that they were performing.
Nevertheless, there's no official word on why Drake is not performing at the event or if he's actually going to show up. It would makes sense for the OVO leader to make an appearance since he is nominated for five awards including Best Rap Album for If You’re Reading This Its Too Late.
Did the Grammy organizers goofed? Does Drake have beef with the Grammy Awards? Who knows?
The 2016 Grammy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on Feb. 15 at 8PM ET on CBS.
