Earlier this week, a new Aaliyah song titled "Enough Said" debuted featuring refreshing vocals from the late singer paired with a verse from rapper Drake. While the track had fans celebrating the songstress' voice on fresh material and critics berating Drizzy's involvement, there was one thing that could not be denied: people were excited about the prospect of a forthcoming Aaliyah album, which is rumored to be in the works.

Now Drake is officially speaking on the project and clearing up some doubts and questions. "People should be really excited," the Toronto native told Much Music. "People thought ['Enough Said'] was my single; it's not my single. It's all off of an Aaliyah project that me and 40 are commanding and 40's just doing some incredible, some incredible music right now."

According to the Take Care creator, the LP will have as many as 14 new Aaliyah songs. "It's not about me," he shared. "It's not about 40. It's about her and her fans and us just getting the opportunity to give you something that we feel is great."

Missy Elliott and Timbaland, longtime collaborators with the singer known as "Baby Girl," are currently not working on the upcoming album, a move that has upset many Aaliyah fans. However, her family seems to be in full support of the new material, even without the involvement of the female rapper or the revered producer, who both crafted tracks like "If Your Girl Only Knew" and "4 Page Letter" with the chanteuse, who died as a result of a plane crash on Aug. 25, 2001.

"The people around her, everybody from her family to her old management and label, were like, 'If there's anyone out that can do it right now, it's [you] and 40,'" Drake revealed. "And that was an honor and we're going to pull in some classic people, anybody who used to work with Aaliyah that was essential in her career we definitely hope to have them involved. So it's great. You get a new Aaliyah album this year on top of everything."
