On the same night that Kid Cali was slain, another popular local rapper was killed in another senseless act of gun violence. Up-and-coming rhymer Swipey was shot and killed in Prince George’s County, Md., on Sunday (Aug. 21).

According to Fox 5 News, the 18-year-old rapper was killed outside of his mother’s home where a party was being held. Apparently, Swipey was arguing with a girl he “used to messed with” at the party and when he stepped outside of the resident, an unknown gunman shot him at point blank range. Police were called after gunshots were reported and Swipey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Swipey, whose real name was Douglas Brooks, was a high school graduate who wanted to pursue a rap career despite being accepted to Morgan State University. Before his death, the rapper was making noise with the thunderous street tracks "No Talking" and "Intro."

The young artist had a knack for putting words together in his rhymes according to his manager, Kevin Baldwin. "He just was a genius when it came to putting lyrics together,” he told Fox 5 News. “And sometimes when he used to do it I'd be like where did you get that from? It was like a God-given thing from him but he was humble.”

Ironically, earlier this month, Swipey eerily predicted his own death with the tweet below.

Upon hearing the news of Swipey's death, fellow D.C. rapper Wale and Shy Glizzy went on Twitter to express their condolences. Read their tweets below.
