Respected EPMD DJ and producer DJ Scratch has announced plans to change his name to DJ Jam Master Scratch, an honor bestowed on him by Run-DMC's Darryl "DMC" McDaniels. At 8PM this evening, the newly appointed Jam Master Scratch will be airing footage of DMC crowning him on Scratchvision.com.

"I dropped so many tears about this," Jam Master Scratch said. "Me being recognized for my 22 years of work by a king [DMC], is my 'Lifetime Achievement Award."

Scratch got his first break as Run-DMC's tour DJ during their 1988 Run's House World Tour, and was then recommended to Long Island rap group EPMD by Run-DMC's legendary DJ, Jam Master Jay. Scratch has DJ'd for the group for more than 20 years. In addition to his work with EPMD, Scratch is an accomplished battle DJ and beatmaker, with production credits for Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, 50 Cent and of course, EPMD, under his belt.

"I will continue to represent JMJ. Only practice makes a real Jam Master," Jam Master Scratch said, alluding to Run-DMC's classic tribute "Jam Master Jay." The original Jam Master Jay was tragically shot and killed in a Queens recording studio in 2002. His murder remains unsolved.
