It’s been a heavy week for the hip-hop community. DJ White Owl, a popular mixtape DJ, has passed away on Sunday (June 6).

Details of his death have not been officially confirmed, but according to reports, DJ White Owl died from “an undisclosed long-term illness.” His close friend, Pokerface, announced the DJ's untimely death on his Instagram page.

"Rest in Peace Rob. I'll see you on the other side. Just gotta be strong and tell you thank you. See you in heaven my brother," he wrote.

Upon hearing the sad news, fellow hip-hoppers Joe Budden, Styles P, DJ Green Lantern and others went on their Twitter accounts to pay homage to the late DJ.

According to Complex, DJ White Owl was a major figure in the mixtape circuit with his “Drop That” mixtape series. He debuted songs from Lil Wayne during his “mixtape Weezy” era, as well as drop exclusives from D Block, Dipset and many others. Fans who copped his mixtapes will remember his famous tagline, “DJ White Owl, drop that!"
