DJ Premier Remixes Disclosure's 'Latch'

New York and England connect once again. English EDM duo Disclosure will release the remix album 'Settle' on Dec. 17, and one of the many producers to appear on the project is hip-hop legend DJ Premier. His remix to 'Latch' -- the Sam Smith-featured album standout -- arrives days before its intended release.

DJ Premier doesn't rely on his trademark scratches here, but he does use another respected trick to provide an interesting take: minimization. The producer does away with a lot of the electronic atmospherics and refocuses the song on a solid drum pattern and a piano loop. It all pays off when the strings add a sense of color and emotion to the original's apexes.

Minimization also plays a slight role in DJ Premier's Gang Starr online holiday pop up shop. The clothing selection includes a few T-shirts and hoodies emblazoned with the prolific Gang Starr logo. The hoodies are selling for $50, and the shirts are $30.

The shop will be open until New Year's Day.
