Dave Chappelle made a big splash on Netflix with his two comedy specials and now he’s headed to the big screen to work on Warner Bros.’ remake of A Star is Born.

The veteran comedian will join Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper who is making his directorial debut with the contemporary remake. The film is based on the original 1937 movie, which was remade in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason and for a third time in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The story centers on a male movie star, whose career has diminished due to his alcoholism, as he tries to help an aspiring actress find fame.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Chappelle will play a character named Noodles, who is Cooper's oldest friend with whom he started out playing with in blues clubs. Fellow actors Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Elliott will also appear in the project, which is currently in production. Warners has slated a Sept. 28, 2018 release date for the film.

This will be Chappelle's first movie role since appearing briefly in Spike Lee's flick Chi-raq in 2015. The 43-year-old funnyman has starred in over a dozen films, most notably in the cult classic Half Baked, where he played the stoner Thurgood Jenkins.

Chappelle is currently entertaining fans on the road with his comedy tour. He will perform a string of shows in Detroit later this month. Peep Chappelle's tour itinerary at Livenation.com.
