There’s no question that Common is beaming right now. After winning his first Oscar at the 87th annual Academy Awards, the Chicago rhymer appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to talk about his glorious win for Best Original Song for "Glory."

Com, holding the Oscar statue in his hand, revealed to Kimmel what Jay Z told him after winning the trophy. “He just was really proud,” he said. “He felt that I represented all of us. People from hip-hop, as black men, as people of love, children of God, he felt that John [Legend] and I were representing that with this Academy Award.”

True indeed.

Common also explained why he swerved Oprah Winfrey when he won his award at the Oscars. In the viral clip, you can see the Nobody Smiling creator avoid O when she raised her hand for a high five. "I didn’t know if that high five was for me or for John, so I went 'safe' and went for David,” he explained.

But no worries. Com talked to Oprah afterward and smooth things out. “We talked the next day and it was like, ‘I wasn’t trying to play you out,'” he said.

During the interview, Common also talked about being a ball boy for the Chicago Bulls and owning a prized possession of signed Air Jordan 1 sneakers.
