Common Disses Drake, Calls Him ‘H– A– N—-’ on Remix

AFP

The war of words between Common and Drake has been escalating for some time, and while the attacks have mostly been covert in nature, things just got a whole lot more explosive. Early Monday (Jan. 9), DJ Sway Calloway premiered Common’s ‘Stay Schemin’ (Remix),’ in which the Chi-town rhymer addresses the Canadian MC by name, accusing him once again of being “soft.”

“Make no mistake, I’m talking to Drake,” Common says after spitting his verse, which follows ones by Rick Ross, French Montana and of course, Drake — the three rappers who appear on the original ‘Stay Schemin’,’ off Ross’ ‘Rich Forever’ mixtape.

“Everybody know you sweet, what the problem is?/ Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged it,” Common raps earlier in the tune, referencing ‘Sweet,’ a song from his latest album, ‘The Dreamer, The Believer.’

Chatting last month with Sway, Common confirmed the suspicions of many hip-hop fans and said that some of the lines could apply to Drake. The admission apparently prompted the ‘Take Care’ creator to fire back with his verse on ‘Stay Schemin’.’

“Don’t be ducking like you never wanted nothing,” Drake warns, showing somewhat uncharacteristic bravado.

If this remix is any indication, Common isn’t ducking anything. He goes on to deliver a lyrical carpet-bombing, accusing Drake of making “hoe music.” In keeping with that theme, he lists Drake as “that hoe ass n—-” on the single’s cover.

“I’m taking too long with this amateur guy,” Common raps at the end of his verse, offering one last critique of Drake’s sensitive-dude image. “You ain’t wet nobody, n—a, you Canada Dry.’

Nice ginger ale reference. Your move, Drake.
