New York radio is bidding farewell to a lauded veteran today. Hot 97 radio personality Cipha Sounds announced that he's leaving the station today (Jan. 27).

The DJ, instrumental in breaking records for artists like Rihanna and Nina Sky, revealed the news in a post on Instagram. He used a photo of a broken Hot 97 logo and a Facebook relationship status. "After 17 years, I'm leaving Hot 97," he wrote. "I'm changing my relationship status from 'It's complicated' to 'single.' It's been an amazing ride -- from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie's seat in afternoons. Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes."

Cipha is cooking up something major as far as his next venture. "The next move is already underway and I promise it's going to be huge," he continued. The Bronx, N.Y. native is likely referring to his comedy career. He's had a successful run with the Don't Get Gassed comedy series and Take It Personal Improv comedy show.

Hot 97 released a statement of their own, wishing the 38-year-old good luck. "Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT Hot 97 FM," read the statement. "We wish him well on his future endeavors."

A recent 'Juan Epstein' podcast revealed Cipha's sentiments about where he fit in at the station. He took over veteran radio host Angie Martinez’s 3PM slot last year and was then replaced with new radio personality Nessa.

Martinez also left the station last year after working there for 15 years. She headed to station competitor Power 105.1.
