Chrisette Michele Delivers Emotional Soul Stage Performance

Songbird Chrisette Michele delivered a powerful, yet emotional performance at the taping for VH1’s Soul Stage series on Tuesday night in New York. Michele set things off with the first single and title track from her upcoming album, ‘Epiphany,’ which is due in stores on May 5.

It was the second song, however, that pushed Michele over edge as the singer began shedding tears while belting out the lyrics to ‘Blame It On Me.’ The songstress revealed that she wrote the song in Atlanta after having her wisdom teeth removed. She credits the ballad’s chorus to a dream that forced her out of sleep to jot down “blame it on me, say it’s my fault.”

“I spent a lot of time with Ne-Yo while recording this album … One thing I learned from Ne-Yo is it’s okay to be vulnerable,” Michele said as she caught her breath and wiped away tears.

The singer did not disappoint despite several pauses as her glam squad fixed her make-up and hair between songs. Michele crooned about letting your actions speak louder than words on her new single ‘What You Do, featuring Ne-Yo,’ and she rocked out for the ladies on the Grammy-winning break-up track ‘Be OK,’ off her debut album ‘I Am.’ Michele treated fans to a rendition of Karyn White‘s 1988 hit ‘Superwoman’ before wrapping up the taping with the ‘I Am’ ballad ‘Golden.’ ‘Epiphany’ hits stores on May 5.
