Chance the Rapper’s Birthday Party Raises $100,000 for Charity
When news got out that Chance The Rapper was throwing a lavish birthday party for himself, it sounded uncharacteristic. It's not because the guy is incapable of turning up or anything like that, it's just that he tends to do things quieter and away from the limelight.
On Sunday (April 16), Chano held his 24th birthday party at the Studio Paris nightclub in Chicago, and fans were allowed to attend for a fee. Plus, T-Pain and Ludacris stopped by to perform and in the end, over $100,000 was raised for charity.
So where did the money go exactly?
According to the New York Daily News, it went to a non-profit called SocialWorks, which Chance co-founded. The overall mission of the non-profit is "to empower the youth through arts, education and civic engagement," its staff says.
Last month, the Coloring Book creator received tons of praise for donating $1 million to Chicago Public Schools, which is just one of the things he's done to help the city's youth. In fact, Chance has done so much that a group now wants him to run for mayor.
Whether the gifted rapper chooses to walk down a political path remains to be seen but he's already doing his fare share to make change, and that's all you can ask of any celebrity.
