When the average person makes a bad joke, it's usually not that big of a deal— somebody doesn't laugh, and the world moves on. But if you're Chad Hugo of The Neptunes and of N.E.R.D, a bad joke can cause a straight up Internet frenzy.

That's exactly what happened when the veteran producer sent a tweet and said he was done with music forever.

"I resign from the music business," wrote Hugo in a now deleted-message. "Thanks again, people, for your support throughout all these years. Good luck. God bless."

Soon after the crazy response to the news, a person from Hugo's team told Pitchfork that he was just fooling around. Thank goodness.

"He's a genius," said Pharrell about Hugo during a past interview. "And I learned a lot from him and I still do. Sometimes we [still] get together and do stuff ... It's just been a minute. We both have families. We live in different states, so we don't get together as much as we used to, but he's still my partner. Always will be."

So for the record, Chad Hugo isn't retiring, which is definitely good news for hip-hop and music in general.
