The Dungeon Family reunion isn't scheduled to officially happen until Sept. 10, during Atlanta's ONE Musicfest, but several original DF members were on hand at a recent media event to discuss the reunion and the importance of preserving Atlanta's culture.

Goodie MOB members Cee-Lo and Big Gipp were on hand, as well as Slim Cutta Calhoun, C-Bone, Lil Will, Mr. DJ and Organized Noize's Rico Wade. The festival marks a special reunion for DF, one that founder Jason Carter says may never happen again, particularly since it seems to be so difficult to get everyone together and on the same page.

The reunion seems especially fitting, particularly since innovative production unit, Organized Noize's documentary, The Art of Organized Noize, debuted on Netflix earlier this year to rave reviews. The DF reunion should be a high point of the cultural and musical resurgence of the legendary Atlanta crew, something that everyone openly acknowledges. Cee-lo said that for him, like everyone else, the documentary was the spark that was needed to make the reunion happen.

"I think the documentary The Art of Organized Noize was just amazing to see," Cee-Lo confirmed, mentioning that he just recently moved back to Atlanta and has felt a strong urge to return to his roots as of late. "It was like an out-of-body experience for us all— that's the way that it affected me. To sit there and reflect on the many details and things that happened, there's so much more to the story. I believe that was the inception [of the reunion]. As far as us personally, we're always in communication, some of us more often and more consistent than others, but we're always in contact. we're truly a family."

He went on to say that the DF reunion at the festival will hopefully only be the beginning of the crew collaborating regularly again. For the sake of music, let's hope that's really the case.

ONE Musicfest will take place on Sept. 10 and will also feature Ice Cube, Erykah Badu, Gary Clark, Jr., Busta Rhymes, Andra Day, BJ the Chicago Kid and A$AP Ferg among others.
