Cassie Donates Cut-Off Hair to Charity

Cassie is admitting that shaving her head was a pre-planned idea, but not a publicity stunt. The 23-year-old spoke to The BoomBox about taking such a big step, stating that she initially had second thoughts. "It was planned out. I was just chickening out of it for a minute. I finally woke up one morning and I was like 'What do I need that hair for?' and it was cool. I gave my mother the ponytail and she donated it." The cut-off ponytail went to the charity 'Locks of Love,' which makes wigs for sick children that cannot afford them.

Following the cut, Cassie posted a picture of her new hairdo on her Twitter page, sending the blogosphere into a frenzy. "Either people, they love it or they hate it. I love it!" The singer may have started a new trend, as television personality La La Vasquez recently shaved a side of her head, thanking Cassie for the idea. "I like hers [La La's]. Hers [is] just a little bit more 'around the way,' it has designs and stuff. Mine is a little more punk. I like the way it came out.

"It was really weird and hilarious and I was [on] an adrenaline rush when it was happening. I was like 'If I'm going to do this, I'm going to go all the way!' Hair grows back. It's not the end of the world, and it ended up looking kinda' cool. Whenever we go somewhere if I have to look a little different I can just put my hair over [the shaved area].

Cassie latest single 'Must Be Love' featuring Diddy was released to radio earlier this year. Her sophomore release 'Electro Love,' hits stores later this year.
