Maybe it was the million of Vine clips, maybe it's because he threw his hat into the air, but either way Bobby Shmurda's 'Hot Boy' has just climbed up to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

In addition, the Jahlil Beats-produced track has been streamed 11.5 million times in the week ending Nov. 9, which is a 45 percent jump based on figures released by Nielsen BDS.

But that's not the song's only accomplishment. It also made a huge gain on Billboard's Hot 100 list, making a leap from No. 8 to No. 6, an impressive feat for a cut that's heavy on violent imagery and light on the pop sensibilities. Even his second single 'Bobby Bitch' has crept eight spots, moving from No. 34 to No. 36.

As far as the now famous video, it received a whopping 9.1 million views during the week Billboard tracked the song, and 1.8 million spins on Spotify, making it the No. 1 Rap Streaming Song.

Since it dropped, 'Hot Boy' took on a life of its own, and once folks like Rihanna, Beyonce and Jay Z cosigned by either posting something about the Shmoney dance or doing it on stage, it rose to even greater heights.

And since the song borrows from the drill music scene, incorporates a few New York stylings, and has a dance attached to it -- like a lot of Southern hip hop -- 'Hot Boy'  didn't appeal to just one region, making it completely accessible.

It'll be interesting to see where the 20-year-old's career goes from here.
