Big Boi Reveals Details of 3-Album Deal with Def Jam

Outkast rapper Big Boi shed some light on the solo deal he signed with record label Def Jam recently.

While fans of the revered Atlanta rap group await another Outkast album, which is said to see release after Andre 3000 drops his forthcoming solo record, Big Boi revealed that he has signed a 3-album deal with Def Jam, who recently released his critically acclaimed 'Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty' album, this past July.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Big Boi explained that he has the option to release two more albums via Def Jam, the first of which will be entitled 'Daddy Fat Sacks: Funk Soul Crusader,' which will come out shortly, avoiding the label politics that slowed down 'Sir Lucious.'

Though Big Boi's solo album was initially going to be released by Outkast's longtime home, Jive Records, the label released him, claiming that his album was too "artsy." Jive then barred Def Jam from releasing the songs Big Boi recorded with Andre, including the stellar 'Lookin 4 Ya.'



"[It took] 40 months, but I could have been done in a year and a half, two years," Big Boi explained in the L.A. Times interview. "Outkast is signed to Jive Records. The type of music that we make, they don't really understand. They were telling me the songs were too artsy and too different."

Big Boi is currently finishing up his tour in support of 'Sir Lucious Left Foot,' with the last two dates in Chattanooga, Tenn. on October 12 and a stop in Sydney, Australia on Oct. 18.
