Big Boi Launches Record Label With Daughter

For celebrity children, exorbitant birthday gifts are nothing out of the ordinary, but Big Boi believes in much more practical gift-giving for teenagers. The OutKast rapper has announced plans to start a new record label with his 16-year-old daughter Jordan in order to commemorate her birthday.

"My daughter just turned 16 years old, and you can see it on MTV's ['My Super Sweet Sixteen'], where they get cars, and things that depreciate and just don't mean nothing," Big Boi told Billboard. "I wanted to give my child something that she can grow and build and nurture. So I gave her her own label."

The new label, which will recruit talented child stars, has already landed their first signee: 12-year-old rapper Gabbie Rae.

After releasing his solo debut 'Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty' in July 2010, Big Boi has continued to pursue unique collaborations with non hip-hop acts that include Swedish electronic group Little Dragon and indie-rock group Modest Mouse.

Last week, the Atlanta rapper celebrated a new partnership as the spokesperson for Crown Royal with a private event in New York City, where he performed for an intimate crowd. As part of his new deal with the liquor brand, Big Boi will star in an upcoming mini-documentary called 'The Crown Life,' which chronicles the day-to-day aspects of his career.
