Beyonce to Receive 2011 Billboard Millennium Award
After nearly a decade of churning out chart-topping hits, Beyonce Knowles will be honored with the 2011 Billboard Millennium Award.
The 29-year-old year old songstress, who was named Woman of the Year by Billboard in October 2009, and Top Female Artist of the Decade in December 2009, will receive the honor at the upcoming Billboard Awards on May 22.
According to Billboard, the former Destiny's Child lead has scored a wealth of accolades, which she deserves recognition for. "The Billboard Millennium Award will recognize Beyonce's career achievements and influence in the music industry, from her role as the frontwoman of Destiny's Child to her three-chart-topping solo albums, which have collectively earned her 16 Grammy awards and ASCAP's Pop Songwriter of the Year award."
While Beyonce accepts her Millennium Award, entertainment at the 2011 Billboard Awards will be provided by Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Rihanna, Taio Cruz, the Black Eyed Peas, Keith Urban and Lady Antebellum.
Beyonce's most recent album, 2008's 'I Am ... Sasha Fierce' sold 2.9 million copies worldwide and spawned an international tour, which was documented in the 'I Am...World Tour' film. The first single 'Run The World (Girls),' from her fourth studio album ,premiered in late April, and her new album is scheduled for release later this year.
The 2011 Billboard Awards will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, on May 22. The show will be hosted by comedian Ken Jeong and broadcast on ABC from 8PM to 11PM EST.
