Beyonce Reveals Title of Fourth Album
There’s no doubt that Beyonce has been taking her time with recording and dropping details on her forthcoming album, but now the singer is ready to let the cat out of the bag.
Beyonce, who graces the latest issue of Billboard magazine, revealed that her album is titled ‘4,’ a number that has great significance in her life. “We all have special numbers in our lives, and 4 is that for me,” she explained. “It’s the day I was born. My mother’s birthday and a lot of my friends’ birthdays are on the fourth; April 4 is my wedding date.”
As for her new single, ‘Run the World (Girls),’ the 29-year-old wanted to step outside of the box. Although the track has not been as well received as her previous work, currently sitting at No. 48 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, Bey explained that she felt a powerful connection to the song.
“It’s definitely riskier than something a bit more … simple. I just heard the track and loved that it was so different: it felt a bit African, a bit electronic and futuristic,” she said. “It reminded me of what I love, which is mixing different cultures and eras — things that typically don’t go together — to create a new sound. I can never be safe; I always try and go against the grain. As soon as I accomplish one thing, I just set a higher goal. That’s how I’ve gotten to where I am.”
While no release date for the ‘Run the Worlds (Girls)’ video has been announced, Beyonce has given fans three sneak peeks of the video, directed by Francis Lawrence. Much like the song, the video appears to have a tribal feel to it, and reportedly features 200 African dancers, who were flown into Los Angeles for the shoot.
In putting together the project, the ‘Single Ladies’ singer recorded over 60 songs, featuring various genres of music, before settling on the final number of tracks which will appear on the record.
‘4’ is slated for a June release.
