As expected, Beyonce performed at the halftime show for Super Bowl 50 along with Coldplay and Bruno Mars on Sunday night (Feb. 7). Although she wasn’t the headliner, Queen Bey showed why she would be the perfect artist to headline next year’s Super Bowl halftime event.

Prior to their performance Coldplay told the media that their show would represent the past, present and future.

The British band kicked things off with their fan-favorite song “Viva La Vida” with the band’s frontman Chris Martin joyously interacting with the fans. The group followed with their 2011 song “Paradise” and “Adventure of a Lifetime.”

Martin then introduced Bruno Mars who represented the present. The singer-songwriter performed his chart-topping hit single “Uptown Funk” (with Mark Ronson backing on the turntables), which segued into Beyonce’s performance of “Formation.”

Queen Bey, whose Super Bowl XLVII halftime performance in 2012 was one of the best of all time, represented the past. Flanked by an army of female dancers, the R&B superstar had a dance off with Bruno Mars and his male dancers. It was “Crazy in Love” Vs. “Uptown Funk” and we don’t have to tell you who won that match.

However, Beyonce did have one little misstep but recovered nicely without missing a beat. Once again, Queen Bey is flawless.

As for the future, it was represented by the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles who backed the British group throughout their entire performance.

Coldplay then closed the show with a rendition of “Up & Up,” behind a video montage of past Super Bowl performances.

The British group joins a prestigious list of past halftime show performers that includes big-name stars like Michael Jackson, Prince, Janet Jackson (who can forget her titillating performance?), Bruno Mars, Beyonce and Katy Perry.

Reactions to the Super Bowl 50 performance were mixed. Some didn’t care for Coldplay as most viewers, including us, was waiting for Beyonce to slay us again.
