Beyonce definitely knows how to make a moment.

The superstar was the surprise opening performance of the 2016 BET Awards. Adding to what has already been a stellar year that's featured Bey performing "Formation" during the Super Bowl Halftime Show, dropping the acclaimed Lemonade album and film and kicking off the mega-hit "Formation Tour," Bey dropped in unexpected (at least to the viewers) made the 2016 BET Award stage her own.

Standing in a pool full of water, Bey performed "Freedom" before hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar stepped on stage for the stellar performance. The audience erupted in a standing ovation as two of the most talked-about artists of the year soaked in another legendary awards show performance.

According to E! News, BET had been planning the surprise and somehow managed to keep it under wraps at the network until this weekend.

Bey's about to start the European leg of her "Formation Tour" after wrapping an amazingly successful North American leg and just dropped the standalone video for "Sorry" this week.
