Beyonce, Fake Pregnancy: Rumors ‘Crazy,’ Singer Says

The Internet is great for fostering conspiracy theories, and toward the end of last year, Beyonce found herself at the heart of a real whopper. According to some, the R&B songstress was faking her pregnancy — i.e. rocking a prosthetic bump to hide the fact that she and hubby Jay-Z were using a surrogate to carry their first child. The singer was well aware of the rumors, and nearly four months after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy, she’s opening up about how they made her feel.

“That was crazy,” Beyonce said in an interview with People magazine. “It wasn’t hurtful. It was just crazy.”

While the superstar might have been more baffled than hurt, her mother, Tina Knowles, found the stories “painful,” especially since people had the gall to ask her about them.

“I thought it was very unfair and very cruel that someone would think that someone would be that diabolical to keep up a charade like that for nine months,” Tina said.

If Beyonce was puzzled by the gossip — following an Australian TV interview, some mistook folds in her outfit for evidence of a fake belly — the pop titan said she felt plenty of support once Blue Ivy arrived.

“There was so much love and well wishes from all over the world — it made it easier to deal with the stupid rumors,” she said.
