Let’s be honest: the cyphers are what we really care about when it comes to the annual BET Hip-Hop Awards. But still, we’re never averse to rappers adding more ornaments to their their trophy cabinets. Yesterday, BET revealed their full list of nominees for 2013.

The self-appointed “King of New York” Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with a whopping 14 nominations, including Album of the Year, Lyricist of the Year and MVP of the year. Breathing down his neck are Drake and J. Cole who boast 13 nods each.

While 2013′s names are as predictable as they are every year, there’s also a few welcome surprises in the mix — most notably Chance the Rapper, whose critically-adored ‘AcidRap’ has been nominated for Best Mixtape. Equally surprising, Kanye West earns a meager four nominations, and only one of those is for an actual record.

Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards tapes on Sept. 28 at Atlanta’s Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center, followed by the network premiere on Oct. 15. Check out the full list of nominees below.
