August Alsina is back. After dropping his debut LP, Testimony, last year, the singer is preparing the release of his sophomore album, This Thing Called Life, which is already receiving high praise from DJ Khaled.

The crooner sat down with the Miami producer as they listened to the sounds of his upcoming project. Khaled, who's best known for bangers like "We Takin' Over," "All I Do Is Win" and "No New Friends," complimented Alsina on the album's cohesive feel.

“The structure’s unbelievable, man. Not lying to you, it’s on my mama,” Khaled said. “I like the way you sequenced the album. I love the music. The only time I’ve ever heard albums like that was Dr. Dre’s Chronic or Nas’ Illmatic.”

According to Khaled, the "young icon" isn't paying attention to the haters with this effort. "We don't care about no critics but our fans and us. Everybody has to be on one page on this one," he shared.

Fans have already got a taste of what's to come from This Thing Called Life since the New Orleans native released two singles: the head-bopping track "Hip Hop" and the uptempo groove "Why I Do It" featuring Lil Wayne. But August supporters should also expect a collaboration with DJ Khaled, Chris Brown and Fetty Wap called "Gold Slugs," to be released soon along with visuals.
