After August Alsina blasted host Keshia Chanté on BET’s ‘106 & Park’ last month, people have been wondering whether or not his reaction towards the question about his beef with Trey Songz was warranted. The singer is finally opening up about the incident.
“I wasn’t mean,” the ‘Testimony’ singer explains to Hot 97’s ‘The Morning Show’ Wednesday (May 7). “Here’s the thing. People get honesty and mean mixed up nowadays.”
‘The Morning Show’ host Ebro pointed out that he didn’t have to curse at Chante, which he did. His exact words: “So you just gon’ go against the grain,” Alsina responded to the ‘106 & Park’ host. “And go against everything I just… I just told you all not to ask me that s— when I got up in here.”
Alsina tells Hot 97 that he was just saying how he felt at the time. “I went back to BET yesterday (May 6), and that’s what I said,” he reveals. “Chanté said, ‘I didn’t mean to disrespect you.’ And I was like, ‘Well, it wasn’t my intentions to disrespect you.'” There was a conversation, but the thing was, you know, before this conversation, I felt how I felt. And I spoke on how I felt, and I don’t take back nothin’ that I said.”
He clarifies that his whole team specifically pointed out many times that he didn’t want to discuss the beef. However, Ebro says that it is Alsina’s fault for all the controversy because he publicly brought up the issues with Trey Songz to begin with.
“It’s all a part of me growing,” the crooner says, defending himself. “I speak from my heart. I got a big f—ing mouth. It just is what it is. I don’t know how to change that. But in all reality, what I said was never to belittle the next n—- or try to cause a problem with the next n—-. It’s like this is how I feel. And I’m the idiot because I said what I said thinking, ‘Maybe if I say this, these n—- won’t ask me about this no more.”
Clearly, he thought wrong.
