R&B singer Ashanti, has enlisted the help of producers from the hit shows 'The Office' and 'Ugly Betty' to create a brand new reality TV series. Specific details on the upcoming show have not been leaked yet, but Ashanti's mother and manager, Tina Douglas told WENN that the show will focus on music, 'American Idol' style. "It's an unscripted television show that is definitely music related," Douglas said. "We'll be revealing more in the coming weeks. She has her own record label, called Written Entertainment, and the show is going to revolve around her label. It's going to be really big."

In addition to Ashanti's foray into television, her mother also spoke about the disappointment of losing a spot in Billboard history to Scottish sensation Susan Boyle. After Boyle won hearts on 'Britain's Got Talent,' she debuted her new album to a new Billboard record for biggest sales for a debut week for a female artist, pushing Ashanti out of the No.1 spot. Boyle then went on to break another Ashanti record when her record stayed at the No.1 spot for five weeks.

Douglas said that while she and Ashanti were happy for Boyle, it was hard to forget the struggle it took to get her daughter to that point. "It's a double-edged sword ... we were happy for her (Boyle) but Ashanti held onto that record for eight years and that was a big feat to accomplish with the music industry it is," she said. "This is my personal opinion: people wanna be successful and they're gonna take whatever route that they can. At the end of the day, before Ashanti blew up in 2002, it took me nine years of struggling with three record deals that failed. it was a struggle, it was hard, but it built character."
