Harlem rapper A$AP Rocky is making quite a name for himself. After signing a lucrative recording contract with Polo Grounds/RCA Records, he's been the focus of interviews and been tapped by Drake to join his Paradise tour this year. In a new interview on BET's '106 & Park' Wednesday (Feb. 1), the 23-year-old rapper gives details on how the Toronto entertainer went about contacting him as well as revealing a funny story about veteran rhymer Rakim.

The 'Peso' creator, decked out in a Givenchy Rottweiler Print Shirt and a Balmain Raccoon Fur Blouson priced at around $5,000, told hosts Terrence and Rosci that the 'Headlines' rapper was "influenced and inspired" by his work. Recently, A$AP performed in Toronto and brought Drizzy out as a special guest. "They went crazy, they went bananas," he revealed.

Rocky, born Rakim Myers, also expressed the story behind his birth name -- his mother named him after 'Paid in Full' creator Rakim. "My mother, crazy lady right, so she see [Rakim] at the light in Harlem, on 125th St. and he got his drop-top [car]... she just run up and she's like, 'Rakim, I named my son after you. You gotta sign his Pamper.' I had it on or whatever. She's like, 'Oh no! Sign a fresh one.'"

He had a chance to meet Rakim Tuesday (Jan. 31), when hot 97 radio host Angie Martinez connected the two during an interview on her show. Wednesday night, Rocky performed for a full house at New York City's Irving Plaza, where he brought out Bun B, among others. He'll embark on the Club Paradise tour with Kendrick Lamar and Drake beginning Feb. 14.
