Andy Mineo can rest comfortably knowing his sophomore album, Uncomfortable, is sitting at No. 1 on the iTunes charts on its release day.

The New York native, whose Never Land EP also earned a No. 1 spot last year, is moving away from the typical turn up anthems and pop-friendly records of his past to focus on a mix of old school boom bap mixed with some trap-inspired sounds on the new LP. Lauded producer !llmind came in to oversee the record and "add his textures to almost all the tracks to make it cohesive," according to Andy.

For the 27-year-old rhymer, this is a new frontier. He wasn't interested in making "part two" of songs like "You Can't Stop Me" and "Paisano's Wylin" that his fans have grown to love. Instead, he put himself in an uncomfortable space (hence the title of the project) to challenge his own creativity.

"I'm going against the grain of what works," he tells The Boombox. "So like I know how to make turn up records, southern records, all the popular records that are out right now. But this is for the first time I think on an album I'm like no, I'm going to take my own artistic step in a different direction and say this is what I like and I'm not gonna just try to keep up with what's happening. I'm gonna try to step out of the safe space to kinda curate my own sound. That's what's scary."

Uncomfortable is a 13-track album that finds Andy wanting more from life on the title track, delivering a tribute to his deaf sister on "Hear My Heart," praising the Big Apple on the Latin-flavored "Uptown" (make sure you listen until the very end) and reflecting on a broken friendship on "Ghost."

With a track record of No. 1's under his belt (he earned the coveted spot atop the Billboard Christian Albums chart when his debut LP, Heroes for Sale, arrived in 2013), it's safe to say Andy Mineo will come out on top once again when his first-week sales are in.
