Dr. DreSinger/producer Akon knows a thing or two about making a dance hit, but apparently he's not the only hip-hopper stepping into the arena.

In a recent interview with the Associated Press, Akon, who signed dance-pop sensation Lady Gaga, revealed that rap legend Dr. Dre plans on releasing a dance record of his own.

"You got some straight, hardcore hip-hop guys actually moving into the dance realm," Akon explained. "That's shocking, when you got someone like Dr. Dre about to do a dance record. That's my point. That's crazy. But, in a way, it's so exciting for me because that just shows our industry is so open-minded to everything. And believe it or not, with that open-mindedness, we can create magic."

While we can't imagine what a Dre dance record would sound like in 2010, we haven't forgotten his electro days in the '80s, with World Class Wreckin' Cru's 'Turn Off the Lights.' "It actually sounds great," Akon assured, about Dre's new dance ditty. "He played it for me. I was shocked. I was like, 'Wow, that's dope!' When the world hear this, they might go crazy!"

We suspect that this is bad news for Dre's long-awaited 'Detox' album. Check out the interview here.
